Cordial invitation to the exhibition opening on April 27 at 4pm

The exhibition focuses on the early work of the Swiss universal artist Max Bill (1908-1994). It spans a wide range from the artist's works from his Bauhaus period, through watercolors of strong form and color from 1932/33, to works of Concrete Art that herald his era at the HfG Ulm. In addition, Max Bill's design for a mural with a capital "O" from 1932 will be realized for the first time on the walls of the Mies van der Rohe House as part of the exhibition. 

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog with a text by Angela Thomas and a newly published monograph by Max Bill on Mies van der Rohe, which was first published in Italian by Il Balcone in 1955.

Max Bill had been working since 1948 on one of the earliest
tributes to Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, which he
finally published in 1955 in the series “architetti del
movimento moderno” published by ‘il balcone’ in Milan.
The Mies van der Rohe House is taking the
exhibition “Max Bill and the impact of Bauhaus ideas” 
as an opportunity to republish the monograph in German.

Bundeskanzler Olaf Scholz hat am Freitag, den 21. Juni 2024 das Mies van der Rohe Haus besucht. Er wurde vom Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Mies van der Rohe Hauses aus Anlass des 25-jährigen Vereinsjubiläums eingeladen und zeigte sich begeistert: "Sie haben hier am Obersee etwas Großartiges geschaffen. Nicht nur die Erinnerung an einen großen Architekten. Großartig ist auch die Art und Weise, wie Sie diese Erinnerung möglich gemacht haben. Von Bürgerinnen und Bürgern für Bürgerinnen und Bürger. Den Bauhäuslern mit ihrem Anspruch an Transparenz, Offenheit und demokratische Partizipation hätte das sicher gefallen. Deshalb danke ich Ihnen herzlich für dieses Engagement." 

Der Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Mies van der Rohe Hauses wurde 1999 gegründet und hat seither zahlreiche Projekte des Hauses unterstützt, darunter Ausstellungen, Forschungsformate, Publikationen und Aktionen der kulturellen Bildung.
